We’re gearing up for our favorite time of year – Spring Break! In just a few short weeks, public schools will be out and students, parents, and even teachers will be hitting the roads heading to their favorite destinations. One of the best things about Roswell is its convenience to so many driveable getaways. If boarding a plane isn’t your cup of tea, consider taking a road trip with family and friends instead. Today we’ve rounded-up our favorite driveable spring break destinations. All are within two hours of our city, and each one is sure to help you feel rested and rejuvenated.

To Experience a Mountain Getaway: Blue Ridge, GA

Distance: 70 mi

While most people think of jet setting to warmer climates for Spring Break, there’s nothing quite like a mountain escape. We love Blue Ridge for its quaint city-center, cute cabins, and historic train. Clocking in at just an hour and a half in the car, it’s one of the shortest destinations on our list. Take in the mountain scenery by hiking to nearby waterfalls like Falls Branch Falls or try your hand at trout fishing. For adults, there are even local breweries and wonderful uptown dining. Blue Ridge will provide all the comforts of city life while giving you the escape you need.

To Hit the “Beach”: Lake Oconee, GA

Distance: 95.4 mi

We know; we know. A beach at the lake isn’t exactly the same as the white sands of the Florida panhandle, but we also know that it’s a lot closer to hit Lake Oconee than Destin. Just under 100 miles away, Lake Oconee allows you to experience all that being near water has to offer whether that’s skiing with friends or sunset cruising with roadies. There are wonderful vacation rentals around the lake, but tops on our accommodation list is the Ritz-Carlton Reynolds. Enjoy the spa and pool during the day and s’mores around the fire pit at night.

To Sightsee with Kids: Chattanooga, TN

Distance: 107 mi

Chattanooga has always been one of the must-see spots for North Georgia residents; it’s a stone’s throw away and still feels like a destination. After all, you get to leave the state (even if it is just to cross the border). If you’re looking for a vacation for the entire family, Chattanooga is for you. Budding scientists will be entranced by the Rock City Gardens while animal enthusiasts will adore the Tennessee Aquarium. For those that love Thomas and all of his friends, book a night at the Chattanooga Choo Choo. Chattanooga is truly a family spot sure to entertain the young and young at heart for days.

To Take Care of College Visits: Athens, GA

Distance: 67.5 mi

While convincing a teenager to take a college visit for part of their Spring Break vacation might take some fancy footwork, Athens is a great way to take care of responsibilities and still have a little fun. Whether you’re a dawg yourself or secretly hoping your kiddos will be, Athens has tons to see beyond the university. Take a trip to see the Tree that Owns Itself, catch a show at The Georgia Theatre, and explore all of Athens’ small neighborhoods. Oh, and be sure to book a babysitter and checkout some of the area craft breweries, too.

To Indulge in a Couples Retreat: Greenville, SC

Distance: 138 mi

If there’s one thing we know, it’s that a getaway with your significant other can be exactly what you need to feel rested and rejuvenated. Greenville might be a little farther away than our other destinations, but trust us; it’s worth it. We love Greenville for its budding restaurant scene, its commitment to green space, and its general cool factor. The town is incredibly walkable and has loads of restaurants and shopping to explore. Don’t forget to take a spin on the trolley, too!

Roswell’s location makes it perfect for hitting the road in any direction for a little getaway. Whether you’re looking to explore the mountains or a city, there’s something for everyone. And if you’re ready for an even bigger adventure, Hartsfield-Jackson is just 45 minutes away. Jump in the car (or on a plane) and have a fantastic Spring Break!
